Wayland Academy students become doctors for a day

The students of Wayland Academy Norfolk recently had the chance to become a doctor for the day, thanks to Operating Theatre Live.

The award-winning event offers a curriculum linked learning experience based around the dissection of real anatomical specimens in a real operating theatre. The programme is built by a consortium of doctors and teachers led by nationally acclaimed human anatomist QTS Samuel Piri.

The programme offered the students the rare opportunity to gown up and step into a fully functioning operating theatre. Students followed the journey from patient care through anaesthetics to incisions and required. On into the dissection of all main organ systems including attempting real surgical procedures. The event was built to directly match the GCSE exam specifications meaning all content has direct impact on student attainment.
